Caterpillar releases new displays for gas compression engines

August 12, 2016
Caterpillar Oil & Gas has introduced its latest operator interface displays for Cat gas compression engines.

The new displays, which monitor engine parameters and conditions through a color touchscreen, allow operators to set up and tune engines without the need for computer-based service tools. In most situations, fleets that move from one site to another need their equipment reconfigured, a task that requires a laptop or other hardware to set up the engines.

With Caterpillar’s new displays, which use a Modbus interface to connect to Caterpillar and customer control systems or SCADA systems, operators can install and troubleshoot engine-related issues from the display without any additional hardware. Operators can also perform Cat electronic technician functions on a common engine interface through the gas compression platform, the company said.

“This announcement furthers our breadth in the technology and digital space,” said Dave Dunlevy, general manager of Caterpillar Oil & Gas. Last week, the company announced its acquisition of M2M Data Corp., a Denver, Colorado-based provider of remote asset monitoring and management services to the oil and gas, power generation and heavy equipment industries.

The first display, a 15 in. (381 mm) monitor, will be available this year for G3600 A4 engines. Additional displays will become available in 2017.
